Advent Part I

As I mentioned in the episode, Advent is a time of waiting and preparation. As followers of Christ, I think there are some specific things we are waiting for, namely, we are living in anticipation of the reign of God to be fully present in the world. Our waiting and preparation is meant to prepare the world for this time. We are people living as “those of a new age.”

1. Have you noticed areas of your life where the justice and mercy that comes with the reign of God would make an incredible difference to people? If so, share those spaces with the group. If not, be attentive this week to these types of places.

2. How might this group come together to support you as you live as a person of a “new age” in a place of darkness?

3. Since a couple of the passages this week deal with a time to come, the coming of Christ, share your previous interpretation of these passages. For example, what did it mean to you that Christ would come like a “thief in the night?”

4. Has that thinking changed over time, or as a result of this episode?

5. What are you waiting for? I made a big deal about this waiting being for a specific purpose, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn to wait for whatever we are waiting for in, sort of, a ‘holy’ way. What are you waiting for? What do you need?
